His father was a soldier and died while he was still young. Dean was left his father's suit of armor and trained in its use and care. He struck the Carpenter job and began his own company from there.

Motivation: He'd like to take his coworkers down a peg; and balancing his hectic life and new carpenter responsibilities is difficult
