When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his daughters to still be retired.

Motivation: Doesn't want to be a Doctor and was forced into it by his family; and to protect his home

Personality: Simon hangs on like a leech to those who appreciate him. It was this clingy personality that held back his writing career. He has zero loyalty and will suck up to whomever is within range, in the hopes of being moved to a better position.
