Due to his spouse's obsession with being a Soapmaker they were divorced and he won custody of their daughter. He worked as a Barber, and he later adopted a second daughter.

Gerard's father didn't care for him much, and the feeling was mutual. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.
