He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He tends to his Bounty Hunter job now, and dutifully fulfills any obligations he has.

Motivation: He made a deal with a demon which lead to his current lot in life, and he's becoming increasingly nervous about it; and to fight the greatest warriors and to fight in the greatest battles ever
