His father taught him the rudiments of the Miner arts, while his mother instructed him in etiquette, music and courtly manner. When the war came and ruined his parents he was left adrift. He was a hard man then and has only learned to fight more as time goes on. He now mingles about in high society.

History: The child of western immigrants he idolized his mother. In his 18th year, his parents were killed by a brigands raid, leaving Bertram alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.
