He refers to his adoptive mother for almost all things he is unsure about, which are numerous. He is very much still a child and has not developed a drive for self-dependency.

History: Born in the south to a Cook, Nicholas learned a great deal about his mother's area of expertise. He helped his mother out around the business and became quite the natural. He ran away from his former home and has been making his living as a Cook for the past few years.

Personality: He is quite gentle and does not know the full extent of his strength. He works very hard to maintain that gentleness. He uses his nature as a weapon; he likes to lead opponents to think him in distress.

History: He was raised happily, as a normal child born to his father and mother. His father taught him the rudiments of the Miner arts, while his mother instructed him in etiquette, music and courtly manner. In his 15th year, his parents were killed by a gnolls raid, leaving Bertram alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

He was regularly beaten by his father, who blamed him for driving them apart. He was always very intelligent and has formed a secret society of specialists.
