History: Trained by his mother for as long as he can remember he had it drilled in his head that it was his duty to serve his country. From there he went from mercenary job to mercenary job. He has been saving his money to try and buy his sister's freedom.

His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. He got away from his former life and has fallen to alcoholism.

Motivation: To fight the greatest warriors and to fight in the greatest battles ever; and he is a bit of a kleptomaniac

Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by goblins. Gilbert was horrified and prayed that his mother was alright. However, he heard that his mother had died fighting off the goblins.
