Personality: He barks his statements quickly and with little fuss. He prefers small words and is at his heart utilitarian. He loves being with his children and actually smiles when they are around. He would do anything for them. He dislikes his ex a great deal.

History: He comes from a rich northern family. His childhood dream was to be a Scribe, but he was a colossal failure. He ran away from his former home and has been making his living as a Body Guard for the past few years.

Personality: He has two modes he varies between. On the job he is cold, steely and emotionless. Off the job he is a party animal. He is terrible with names forgetting people's names several times before they finally stick; this causes him no end of embarrassment.

History: His parents moved while he was still in utero so he is the first generation to be born here. His family was turned out during the war. He and his family wandered west to less war torn lands. He has set out to sabotage the competition.

Motivation: To be a Herbalist again; and balancing his hectic life and new interpreter responsibilities is difficult

Beneath his clothing is a huge mess of scar tissue. His hair is short and brown. He has gray eyes and a brown hat with a white feather.

Personality: He takes his job very seriously, in part because he fears he cannot get a new one. As long as the job gets done he does not care how it got done.

History: He was born a particularly ugly child, much to the horror of his parents. Being born in the east, he completed his medical training abroad so as to avoid the war. He returned after the war having achieved medical proficiency. He was a general practitioner in the east for years, until he, through no fault of his own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal he made his way north. He has set out to sabotage the competition.

Motivation: His relatives are trying to arrange a marriage; and doesn't want to be a navigator and was forced into it by his family

Personality: He is overprotective of those who hire his services. Alex is a bit of a follower. Usually he is manipulated by his brothers into helping them out, but recently he has become more of a free agent.

History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when dire rats swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. His mother disappeared, and while he tried to raise money to find his mother, he was betrayed dozens of times. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to dire rats demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: To reunite with his absent mother; and he wants revenge against dire rats
