Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. Personality: He hates Humans with a passion. As such he is filled with self loathing. He claims to be unscrupulous but at the end of the day he will do what he thinks is right.
