He would practice along the way and, when he arrived, be apprenticed to a Courier. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.

Motivation: He is currently in port desperately looking for someone to get him out; and he is wracked by social anxiety

History: A child with a great deal of dancing talent his parents made sure he got the chance to thrive. His parents were killed by gnolls in a raid when he was still a young child. The gnolls captured him, and made him a slave and general play-thing. He was beaten and tortured regularly, leading to his deformed appearance. He used his abilities to travel the world and help people.

Motivation: A deep hatred of gnolls; and many gnolls want him driven away

History: Born to a Bounty Hunter, his mother struggled to pay the bills. While he appears to be a normal Human, he's... not quite right. Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. He has made many enemies by not giving into corruption and outing many instances of it.
