His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. He inherited the family business which he has now maintained for 13 years.

History: His parents moved while he was still in utero so he is the first generation to be born here. In his 16th year, his parents were killed by a dire rats raid, leaving Mantus alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He has became unsatisfied with his lot in life, and decided to take up adventuring.

Motivation: Many dire rats want him driven away.

History: Theodoric hails from a village terrorized by illithids. A gypsy cursed him at a young age, leading to his ugly appearance. After a long history of fighting, Theodoric and his spouse have recently divorced.

Motivation: He wants revenge against illithids.

History: Born in a small village he learned the ways of the warrior from his mother. His spouse left him for another, whom he beat to an almost bloody pulp. He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.
