He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He became a plane-shifter, and is stopping over on this plane for a brief visit.

History: He was born in the north. A gypsy cursed him at a young age, leading to his ugly appearance. He hasn't been sleeping well lately.
