History: Paggen was born into a poor family. Growing up, he dreamt of becoming a Warrior, to bring honor to his family’s name. When he came of age, he applied for a position with his town's local guard, looking to work his way up via merit and eventually become a Warrior in service of a powerful lord somewhere. He dropped out of school before completing his studies. He routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.

Aside from being a slave or a gladiator, there isn't much legitimate work for Half-Elves in Gilbert's homeland. Gilbert decided to take the middle way and become a bodyguard. He left for the north, certain he would find work there.
