It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

History: Her history is one of pain. She was disowned by both parents and raised among the slaves her parents kept. When Shaena reached her early adolescence her Halfling mother passed away. Feeling disconnected from the small nearby village afterwards, she decided to travel. Her rounds led her into the Army with a few individuals who would become her life-long companions. After a long history of fighting, Shaena and her spouse have recently divorced.

History: He was born in a small mountains village. His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Chad grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Chad. He became a Spice Merchant soon after.
