History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when dire rats swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. In his 10th year, his parents were killed by a dire rats raid, leaving Varis alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. Being a Layabout kept his interest for a while, but then he became depressed and bored. So he turned to a secret life of crime, taking increasingly more risks and challenges.

History: She was a bastard born out of an affair, and her mother always resented and mistreated her for it out of spite.
