She did whatever it took for her to survive. She has gone from town to town till she finds a spot where she can set up a sustainable business.

Under her leadership it has flourished, and using capital from her venture she effectively owns an entire region. When her spouse passed she lost her only source of income but claims to her daughters to still be retired.
