She was a hard woman then and has only learned to fight more as time goes on. She was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

History: She comes from a rich southern family. Through the years after Joan was born, her mother became increasingly distant from her family, instead choosing to pursue power in the south. Joan's mother didn't care for her much, and the feeling was mutual. After a long history of fighting, Joan and her spouse have recently divorced.
