He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. She's also a talented Adventurer, but doesn't like to broadcast it.

She routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.

Motivation: He has decided he is irredeemable; and he is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences his actions
