During her travels, Surina and her party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Surina discovered the rest of her party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. She was regularly beaten by her mother, who blamed her for driving them apart. She was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.
