Motivation: His spouse's relatives view him with great suspicion; and he is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences his actions

History: Sold as a small child to a necromancer, Sorath was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. Her parents were killed by dire rats in a raid when she was still a young child. The dire rats captured her, and made her a slave and general play-thing.
