Her uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took her in and had her trained in basic self defense. She has dedicated herself to building a better village for her children.

She was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching her a humbling lesson in trusting others.

History: Trained by his father for as long as he can remember he had it drilled in his head that it was his duty to serve his country. He inherited a moderately successful company from his father. Under his leadership it has flourished, and using capital from his venture he effectively owns an entire region. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.
