It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

History: She was raised happily, as a normal child born to her mother and father. Her mother taught her the rudiments of the Carter arts, while her father instructed her in etiquette, music and courtly manner. Being born in the north, she completed her medical training abroad so as to avoid the war. She returned after the war having achieved medical proficiency. She was a general practitioner in the north for years, until she, through no fault of her own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal she made her way east. History: Her parents moved while she was still in utero so she is the first generation to be born here. Hadwisa was born on a far southern island where she grew up under the tutelage of her father, an expert Map Maker. After a long history of fighting, Hadwisa and her spouse have recently divorced.
