However, he heard that his mother had died fighting off the brigands.

History: He comes from a rich northern family. A gypsy cursed him at a young age, leading to his ugly appearance. He has built up a small fortune and can afford his own way.

She is fiercely devoted to her father, and views her father's ex-spouse as an evil person for separating her from her legal half-brother.

History: She was born several months after her father was called into army service. Adelaide was a troubled youth. Adelaide decided she wanted neither the life of her father nor that of the evil petty criminals she associated with.
