History: The child of a Fletcher, who enjoyed hunting, Serpent was taken on many hunting expeditions. Her father had invested heavily in several trade routes and wanted her to inherit them. She now mingles about in high society.

Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. He then took over the family business and is one of the better Doctor for hire.
