She was regularly beaten by her father, who blamed her for driving them apart. After a long history of fighting, Syllin and her spouse have recently divorced.

His family became saddled with debt trying to care for his infirm father. Being a Fletcher kept his interest for a while, but then he became depressed and bored. So he turned to a secret life of crime, taking increasingly more risks and challenges.
