Althaea grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Althaea. By chance she met her sister recently and the two have been together since.

She advanced relatively quickly due to her good work ethic, understanding of the chain of command, and natural leadership ability. She was forced to fight in gladiatorial arenas alongside her partner. They became the best of friends and one day they managed to break out together and then went their separate ways.
