History: He was born blind and as such lacked many opportunities for work. His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Nim grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. History: She comes from a rich western family. She sought a place where she would be rewarded solely on the merits of her skills.
