Perhaps she's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that she plain doesn't fit in. She inherited the family business which she has now maintained for 3 years.

When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Bookbinder hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor.
