Motivation: He wants nothing more than to rejoin the army; and he is currently in port desperately looking for someone to get him out

Aside from being a slave or a gladiator, there isn't much legitimate work for Dragonborns in Saphara's homeland. Saphara decided to take the middle way and become a bodyguard. She left for the west, certain she would find work there.
