History: His mother raised him in a mountain cabin. When he was little, his rather wealthy family often ventured across the desert to a summer home near a ruined castle. His family spent the next few days looking for him, and could only assume he was dead when it came time to leave. The family never returned to the desert due to the painful memories there. Emerald took refuge in the ruined castle and found the beat up pickaxe and armor he uses now. He has made many enemies by not giving into corruption and outing many instances of it.

History: She is the product a well kept family trust fund and as such has never really known need. She was married off to the eldest child of a minor noble. Her spouse died of illness and she inherited everything. She knows her nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but her.

Recently a tribe of dire rats attacked the village and all able bodies who could hold a blade were quickly armed and sent to the walls.
