He found a children's book about a Elf Adept who fought for good and justice and never realised it was just a child's story. He modeled his life after the story, seeing himself destined a hero. He became a plane-shifter, and is stopping over on this plane for a brief visit.

When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. She now travels the world, in search of power and loot.
