Her uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took her in and had her trained in basic self defense. She now has a substantial network of resources ranging from contacts to ships to peers.

History: Trained by his mother for as long as he can remember he had it drilled in his head that it was his duty to serve his country. A serious injury left his mother unemployed and in need of constant care. His family became saddled with debt trying to care for his infirm mother. He became a Herbalist soon after.

Motivation: He made a deal with a demon which lead to his current lot in life, and he's becoming increasingly nervous about it; and he wants nothing more than to rejoin the army
