To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Bhevek. One night he noticed a nearby shooting star which he hiked out to see where it landed. It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

Personality: She shows great sympathy to all travelers. She's the type to buy drinks and listen to their stories. She has all her life been fascinated with music.

History: Her history is one of pain. She was disowned by both parents and raised among the slaves her parents kept. Her mother had invested heavily in several trade routes and wanted her to inherit them. She has been saving her money to try and buy her brother's freedom.

Personality: He considers himself the perfect gentleman. He makes a point to always show proper etiquette and frequently critiques the etiquette of others. He lacks moral complications. He does what he is told to by employers but not much else. He spends his money on whatever he fancies at the time.

History: The child of a Bookbinder, who enjoyed hunting, Mozfel was taken on many hunting expeditions. Mozfel was born on a far eastern forest where he grew up under the tutelage of his father, an expert Courier. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

Personality: He seems absolutely devoid of it. He stares off into space and will respond with overly literal and minimalist answers to questions. He misses his home and complains about the freezing weather, even in summer.

History: He was born to a pair of big game hunters, but was frequently ill as a child. He was an athlete and attended two major summer competitions. He never won. He left for the north, certain he would find work there.

Motivation: To find somewhere to settle down; and wants to work out more often

Personality: He exudes charisma. He is a tour de force of persuasion. He refers to his adoptive mother for almost all things he is unsure about, which are numerous. He is very much still a child and has not developed a drive for self-dependency.

History: From birth he was tutored by a cruel and relentless mentor. One day when Traubon was young, his mother was sewing while trying to overcome the flu, when suddenly his mother dropped to the ground dead. His mother had died from a severe disease that was unknown to the village doctor. Traubon was heart-stricken from the event, and his father started working long hours to provde for them. He has built up a small fortune and can afford his own way.

History: Born in the west to a Painter, Anne learned a great deal about her father's area of expertise. She helped her father out around the business and became quite the natural. She used her abilities to travel the world and help people.

Motivation: Someone believes her a fraud; and to be a bather again

Personality: He likes to be helpful to his clients. He likes to prescribe proper advice to his clients. On top of that he is swayed by a pretty face, and while loyalty to his employer will always come first he doesn't like to hit women.

History: From birth he was tutored by a cruel and relentless mentor. From there he went from mercenary job to mercenary job. After a long history of fighting, Tordek and his spouse have recently divorced.

Motivation: Meet up once more with his childhood friend.
