He found a children's book about a Human Bard who fought for good and justice and never realised it was just a child's story. He modeled his life after the story, seeing himself destined a hero. He's since become an addict/alcoholic.

Motivation: A rival would like him out of the picture.

Ostracized due to the martial powers of his oldest brother, he and his siblings struck out on their own. In the process these unassuming Half-Elves became a terror of the countryside. He has gone from town to town working and never settling down anywhere, but has fallen for a local Crown-heir. He hasn't told them the truth, but wants to settle down with them.
