History: Born the oldest of a large religious northern family, he was no stranger to responsibility. In his 18th year, his parents were killed by a illithids raid, leaving Ortegar alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to illithids demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: He wants revenge against illithids; and he has a rivalry with the church that dominates his actions

History: She was a bastard born out of an affair, and her mother always resented and mistreated her for it out of spite. A serious injury left her mother unemployed and in need of constant care. Her family became saddled with debt trying to care for her infirm mother. She moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.

Motivation: She made a deal with a demon which lead to her current lot in life, and she's becoming increasingly nervous about it.
