History: She was born a particularly ugly child, much to the horror of her parents. While studying, she fell in love. They married and had a son. Some 4 years later her spouse died after the birth of her son. Heartbroken, Jarsali never married again. History: She was born blind and as such lacked many opportunities for work. She was an athlete and attended two major summer competitions. She never won. She has built up a small fortune and can afford her own way.

History: He was born with several neurological imbalances, which makes sleep difficult for him. It may also be what makes him so good at details. His parents divorced when he was young, and his father gained full cudstody. He was regularly beaten by his father, who blamed him for driving them apart. He hasn't been sleeping well lately.

She did not win them back, but she came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to giants demanding more tribute than usual.
