As a very small child his family refused to pay dues to a local crime lord, who ordered them killed. His father, a somewhat powerful mage sought to protect him and cast a teleportation spell that whisked him away. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. After a long history of fighting, Thorpe and his spouse have recently divorced.
