She advanced relatively quickly due to her good work ethic, understanding of the chain of command, and natural leadership ability. Some 10 years later her spouse died after the birth of her son. Heartbroken, Susannah never married again. Instead she focused her life to raising her son whom she trained as her mother had trained her before.
