History: Sold as a small child to a necromancer, Merla was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. Personality: He hates illithids. He views them as having robbed his home of its proper glory. Hobart enjoys physical pleasures, and is well known for his love of warm baths in the hot springs near the town.

History: Born to a poor family in the city he treasured whatever gifts he got. His parents were killed by illithids in a raid when he was still a young child. The illithids captured him, and made him a slave and general play-thing. He was beaten and tortured regularly, leading to his deformed appearance. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to illithids demanding more tribute than usual.
