Through the years after Fonkin was born, his father became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the north. Fonkin's father didn't care for him much, and the feeling was mutual. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.

When her mother died while fighting giants, the young Paela began to lead the lost caravan. She now travels the world, in search of power and loot.

History: A studious child she never was much for a social life, not because she was unlikable, but because she did not seek it out. Being born in the west, she completed her medical training abroad so as to avoid the war. She returned after the war having achieved medical proficiency. She was a general practitioner in the west for years, until she, through no fault of her own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal she made her way south. She now mingles about in high society.
