You don’t need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 ft. of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.
Thieves' Cant: You have learned thieves’ cant, a secret mix of dialect, jargon, and code that allows you to hide messages in seemingly normal conversation. It takes four times longer to convey such a message than it does to speak the same idea plainly.

Redemption. There’s a spark of good in everyone. (Good)
Honor. I don’t steal from others in the trade. (Lawful)
Someone I loved died because of a mistake I made. That will never happen again.
An innocent person is in prison for a crime that I committed. I’m okay with that.
Betterment was born to a tiefling mother and human father. Neither parent was wealthy, and they lived in a decent sized city. When his mother became pregnant, the father fled town. Now a single mother, she had to struggle with trying to raise a baby in a place that hated them simply for being tieflings. His mother was killed of a hate crime when he was a boy; he had to learn to raise himself by any means necessary from then on.
Constantly berated and told he was lesser and evil, Betterment set out to become part of his city's guard and prove he was a good man. Though the task was difficult, eventually, he succeeded and earned at least a little more respect than he had before.
His city, one day, fell under the attack of an enemy's militia. Betterment had the idea to attack offensively and explosively; this was disapproved of, because it would result in lots of collateral damage, the wiping out of the other army, or a suicide to their own guard. Betterment secretly went ahead with his plan, ignoring his superior's orders.
The explosions did, indeed, cause more damage than necessary and casualties on both sides of the fight -- including a comrade Betterment cared for deeply. He was immediately punished for his actions, despite trying to place the blame on one of his overseers. Though his overseer had no part in the crime, they were still locked away due to the association.
Betterment was stripped of his title and cast aside by the entirety of his city. He had no choice other than to live around the outskirts and make a new life; including his new name, chosen to symbolize his hope of a reform and a riddance of his guilt due to his perilous actions.
