Description: A pudgy man standing about 4'7" has a big stupid grin on his face most of the time. He wears suspenders and black workpants. His shirt is green, and he wears a heavy black leather apron most of the time. His hair is white and curly. His eyes are a pleasant hazel.

Personality: He is a sleazy, sleazy guy. He has no qualms about using his powers of suggestion to get people to do what he wants. He is kind towards other men and children and will generally offer men help without question. Others will generally need to prove themselves to him.

History: He was born in a small island village. When he was little, his rather wealthy family often ventured across the island to a summer home near a ruined castle. He would wander through that ruined castle and adventure through it for days. One day while adventuring a terrible storm took place and he was stranded inside. His family spent the next few days looking for him, and could only assume he was dead when it came time to leave. The family never returned to the island due to the painful memories there. Varis took refuge in the ruined castle and found the beat up sai and armor he uses now. He routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.

He dislikes loud distracting noises, but is overall hospitable. His biggest love is that of knowledge and as such will purchase any books or pay to listen to tales that travelers might have.

History: His father raised him in a mountain cabin. When he came of age, he joined a caravan that would eventually take him to the capital. He would practice along the way and, when he arrived, be apprenticed to a Map Maker. He then took over the family business and is one of the better Map Maker for hire.
