However, he heard that his mother had died fighting off the dire rats.

History: Born in the south to a Slave Trader, Aramil learned a great deal about his mother's area of expertise. His spouse left him for another, whom he beat to an almost bloody pulp. He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He has became unsatisfied with his lot in life, and decided to take up adventuring.
