His family became saddled with debt trying to care for his infirm mother. He has gone from town to town till he finds a spot where he can set up a sustainable business.

Personality: Here is a man who knows he is the smartest in the room. He talks down to others constantly. He is however greedy and will demand payment and proof of collateral's value and will produce a merchant's scale to make sure he is not cheated out of a speck.

History: Theren lived on a farm with his mother, near the main road leading to a nearby town. He took after his mother in leading caravans. Because they were valued, his mother taught him to defend himself. When his mother died while fighting illithids, the young Theren began to lead the lost caravan. He now has a substantial network of resources ranging from contacts to ships to peers.

Motivation: Someone believes him a fraud; and he is compelled to act according to his religious beliefs
