He was an adventurer many years ago and he formed a blood bond with his Elven companion (his 'brother'). He became a plane-shifter, and is stopping over on this plane for a brief visit.

Rolen was left his father's suit of armor and trained in its use and care. After months of barely getting by, Rolen managed to ambush a major caravan with a load of valuables. Instantly wealthy, he made his way to the capital under a new identity.
