History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when giants swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. In his 12th year, his parents were killed by a giants raid, leaving Varis alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

Description: This malnourished man wears dull brown sweaters, loose grey pants, and alligator leather shoes. Beneath his sweater he keeps a concealed sword, just in case. His hair is cut close to his head. His blue eyes have a joyful gleam in them most of the time.

Personality: He likes to fabricate stories about his past exploits and how crazy he is, but in actuality he is rather bland. He has no love for corruption and racketeering and views those as crimes of the highest magnitude.

History: His history is one of pain. He was disowned by both parents and raised among the slaves his parents kept. Through the years after Berrian was born, his mother became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the south. Berrian's mother didn't care for him much, and the feeling was mutual. He has made many enemies by not giving into corruption and outing many instances of it.

Personality: He is a man who does what he needs to. He will acquiesce to black mail and extortion to avoid trouble. His respect, as difficult as one would find it to earn, is unwavering; those who more than prove themselves to him, a bar set well above any reasonable standard, he tolerates in varying degrees. Though less modest and more hasty in his reactions to snap at those who irritate him, Nim is combative with any and all who dare try his patience in the slightest.

History: He was a bastard born out of an affair, and his mother always resented and mistreated him for it out of spite. Nim was a troubled youth. He spent his days as a hard laborer instead of attending school, and spent his evenings with numerous mobsters and gang members. Nim decided he wanted neither the life of his mother nor that of the evil petty criminals he associated with. During his early adolescence, he took a sudden opportunity while working the docks and commandeered a vessel that was left unmanned. Recently he has begun working with bootleggers and crooks.

Personality: He is quiet and unassuming. He ignores others and carries on with his job unassumingly. He does not believe in violence as a means to an end. He is a dedicated Engraver but believes his peers are too gung-ho.

History: Laucian was born into a poor family. Growing up, he dreamt of becoming a Sorcerer, to bring honor to his family’s name. When he came of age, he applied for a position with his town's local guard, looking to work his way up via merit and eventually become a Sorcerer in service of a powerful lord somewhere. Laucian abandoned his home at a very young age, living in the fields and plains. He survived everyday through hunting and stealing from passersby. He did whatever it took for him to survive. He has set out to sabotage the competition.

Personality: Cocky and sure of himself, he believes he is the best Jeweler born in the past three hundred years. He pushes his goals aggressively. He is also a coward if confronted.

History: He grew up in a lower middle class home, but living comfortably wasn't enough. He sought a place where he would be rewarded solely on the merits of his skills. This search led him directly into Jeweler work with an outfit from a few towns over. Jeweler work suited him well, and with each successful project, he earned more gold and more respect from his peers. He now mingles about in high society.
