Motivation: He's repulsed by the PC; and to fight the greatest warriors and to fight in the greatest battles ever

History: He got into the Dilettante business at a young age. He worked as a nervous Dilettante and found it very stressful. He's also a talented Ploughman, but doesn't like to broadcast it.
