History: Sold as a small child to a brothel owner, Rael was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. He eventually earned his freedom when his former master disappeared. His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Rael grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Rael. He routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.

History: When he was but 3 years old his parents immigrated from the east. His family was being driven out of business by several neighboring competitors. The mother sought out extralegal help and others began closing their doors. He saw this and took pride in his mother's willingness to do anything to win. He has drifted apart from his friends and has been working freelance. Each gave each other a copy of their signature dagger.
