It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

When he came of age, he joined a caravan that would eventually take him to the capital. He would practice along the way and, when he arrived, be apprenticed to a Assassin. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

History: He got into the Marshal business at a young age. While studying, he fell in love. They married and had a daughter. He became a Marshal soon after.

History: Born to a Miller, his mother struggled to pay the bills. A gypsy cursed him at a young age, leading to his ugly appearance. Recently a tribe of goblins attacked the village and all able bodies who could hold a blade were quickly armed and sent to the walls. Arannis fought at the side of some of the regions greatest heroes but was never overshadowed.
