Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. He has been saving his money to try and buy his brother's freedom.

Theriatis was left his father's suit of armor and trained in its use and care. He remains aloof and afraid to be himself due to all the ideals others have placed upon him.
